From their website:

“The Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation is an organization that provides millions of dollars for novel Alzheimer’s research primarily conducted by the late Nobel laureate Dr. Paul Greengard and his team of over 50 internationally renowned scientists at the Fisher Center lab at The Rockefeller University, plus other leading research institutes around the world.

The Fisher Center lab at The Rockefeller University is one of the largest and most modern scientific facilities in the world dedicated to solving the puzzle of Alzheimer’s disease.

Our mission is to understand the causes of Alzheimer’s disease; improve the care of people living with it – to enhance their quality of life, and find a cure.

Our vision is working towards a future when Alzheimer’s is nothing but a memory.”

Thomas Norton 1937-2017

A note from Nicole Mazzucca, granddaughter of the late Thomas Norton:

“To try and convey the man “my Pa” was, is nearly impossible- words seem so inane sometimes, but I’ll do my best.

Thomas P. Norton played many roles in life- husband to Elizabeth Norton, father to 6 children, grandfather to 14, brother, uncle, train connoisseur, army vet, the list could go on. Above all of these, he was a genuine man who could instantly make anyone he met feel comfortable. His love for his family was evident. He was always making sure we were taken care of. From singing us to sleep, to giving us arm tickles, cooking us silver dollars, or video taping every moment of our days, he was the actual best.

His faith was unwavering. He actively volunteered at St. Francis of Assisi and in the summer you could be sure to find him selling ride tickets at the annual carnival. He was patient, kind and loved his country. Serving from 1955-1990, he was an army veteran and fought in Korea. He loved the show M.A.S.H and knickerbocker beer. But more than that he loved his family. The love him and my grandmother shared will always be one of envy. He epitomized the ideal grandfather, father and husband figure.

If you knew my grandfather, you knew he either had a baby or video camera in his arms. Being able to calm any baby down quickly, he was commonly referred to as the “baby whisperer”. There was no baby that didn’t love him instantaneously.

Pa was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2009. We were blessed with 8 years with him after that but each year got harder. It’s not easy to watch your loved one start to find the world they once knew unrecognizable. Our lives changed forever on September 3, 2017 but the memories we have will never go away.

I know I can speak for my cousins when I say we were lucky to have Pa as our grandfather and miss him everyday. To say I’m thankful we have so many memories, recorded and otherwise, would be a gross understatement. Pa, I love you a bushel and a peck- until we meet again🖤”
